  18.         We can do it.
  19.  
  20.         Nearly 40 years after unleashing the most destructive weapon known to
  21. modern humanity, it is not too late to realize that we have made a grave
  22. mistake in choosing the road to destruction rather than cooperation, apathy
  23. rather than sympathy, global disease rather than world peace.  We can change
  24. this course that leads to war, police state, painful cancer and the highly
  25. probable annihilation of the human species.  Just as we have the technology and
  26. resources available to destroy the world more than 100 times over, we have
  27. everything we need to provide for all the needs and rights of every living
  28. being on the planet, and respect our mother earth as the kind of provider of
  29. life that she is.  Unscrupulous, greedy, money and power seekers have dominated
  30. our lives and earth for too long and today is the day for each of us to put
  31. forth all of our efforts to liberate ourselves and our human family and our
  32. earth from the destructive exploitative slavery we live under.  Short-term
  33. gratification and profits threaten to annihilate the existence of all life on
  34. planet Earth!
  35.  
  36.         Peace, how do we go about reaching it?  NO not just the time between
  37. wars, but peace itself.  The putting together of many different ideas all
  38. working toward one main goal.  Eventually doing away with the evils that 
  39. oppress us, and learning to use our own minds for ourselves.  Also becomming 
  40. more aware of our surroundings and realizing when something is wrong, then
  41. trying to change it.  There has been and always will be people striving for
  42. world peace but only time will tell.
  43.  
  44.         TELL ME HOW....can you pledge allegiance to a nation that causes mass
  45. extermination, crushes hope; determination puts the poor on permanent ration.
  46. We always back the wrong horse then expect to win the race.  Escalate the body
  47. count in hope to save our face.  I see one more Vietnam.  Can we ever bury the
  48. already dead?  Can you substitute an MX Missile in exchange for daily bread?
  49. Nostradamus was a prophet.  He said a plague would be in our time.  It cought
  50. us with our pants down. It came up from behind.
  51.  
  52.         If you value your ability to breathe the air; to run, jump and play; to
  53. smile and laugh; to see and smell the beauty of a rose; then join your efforts
  54. with the worldwide efforts for peace so that there will be a tomorrow for us
  55. and our children on this earth.  We are facing the destruction of the earth due
  56. to nuclear military madness.
  57.  
  58.         We must remember that it has been we Americans who, at almost every
  59. step of the road, have taken the lead in the developement of (nuclear)
  60. weaponry.  It was we who first produced and tested such a device; we who were
  61. the first to raise its destructivness to a new level with the hydrogen bomb; we
  62. who introduced the multiple warhead; we who have declined every proposal for
  63. the renunciation of the principle of "first use",  and we alone, so help us
  64. God, who have used the weapon in anger against others, and against tens of
  65. thousands of non-combatants at that.  Peace is not exclusively a national but
  66. an international issue.  You can't have peace in one place and war somewhere 
  67. else.  War anywhere threatens us eveywhere.  The world today is such that 
  68. there's no room for a nuclear holocaust anywhere because everyone would be
  69. affected.  The idea is too destructive.
  70.  
  71.         People everywhere can gain much strength and encouragement from the
  72. knowledge that the overwhelming bulk of governments  -  the non-aligned and
  73. Socialist countries in the first place, stand with them.  They are calling for
  74. the same concrete steps that the millions demonstrating throughout the world
  75. are demanding, such as....1)an immediate freeze and the reduction and
  76. elimination of all nuclear weapons; 2) renunciation of the first use of nuclear
  77. weapons; 3) a comprehensive ban on all nuclear testing; 4) the establishment of
  78. nuclear weapon - free zones; 5) the bannning of space weaponry, and so forth.
  79.  
  80.         The wish for peace in the world has never been so great.  Hundreds of
  81. millions of people in the world are marching, demonstrating, participating in
  82. non-violent civil disobediance such as peace camping and vigiling against
  83. nukes, nuclear missiles, and nuclear war. Other people are "underground"
  84. fighting in an armed struggle for economic justice and peace.  We are all types
  85. of people: students, workers, parents, feminists, gays, scientists, scholars,
  86. soldiers, revolutionaries, anarchists, socialists, comunists, radical,
  87. liberals, moderates and even a few conservatives.  The big question is.........
  88. "WHAT CAN I DO?"  Communicate and activate, even though the world is in as
  89. much danger as it's ever been, people working together have won some battles.
  90. Through non-violent action we can refuse to cooperate with a system that
  91. perpetuates the nuclear arms race, and divorce ourselves from violence and
  92. oppression.
  93.  
  94.         An evolutionary growth or leap in conscious growth or leap in conscious
  95. awareness is urgently needed to rapidly achieve a nuclear-free,
  96. conventional-war-free, non-exploitive world.  The human rights movement must
  97. continue to grow, to demonstrate the inter-connectedness of all the economic
  98. and political and bloody crimes committed against humankind by greed for power.
  99. Any reason to use nuclear weapons becomes unthinkable due to the consequences.
  100. We must use reason and understanding instead of weapons and violence to settle
  101. our differences. (remember....peace or annihilation)
  102.  
  103.         Get active, demonstrate your opposition and dissatisfaction!  The media
  104. (slanted as we know it is) can often educate people, who in turn contact
  105. politicians and let them know how large blocks of their constituents feel.  
  106. This work can be time-consuming, exhausting and sometimes dangerous, but the
  107. feeling of solidarity built by working together through unity can make us feel
  108. less frustrated and paralyzed.  We can feel less alone, work with hope in our
  109. hearts for a common vision of a safer more equal world.  We must fight the
  110. feeling of being in a hopeless situation.
  111.  
  112.         By turning our priorities, directions and use of energies, resources
  113. and technology toward peaceful and positive solutions, we can collectively
  114. decide to break down the power and decision heiarchy based upon macho,
  115. might-makes-right power and wealth.  It is time for us to meet, and solidify
  116. and bring into immediate action a plan for world peace which will embrace and
  117. protect and secure the needs and rights of each world citizen and the earth
  118. itself.  Let us lay aside our differences and be willing to sacrifice wealth 
  119. and luxury in order that each and every person on earth may enjoy the benefits
  120. and security of living in a peaceful world.  We must meet to consolidate our 
  121. ideas and stratagies and make use of all available means to spread this vital
  122. message of peace as quickly and effectively as possible to all the people in
  123. the world.

  125.         Our stratagies and courses of action must be built upon the pillars of
  126. honesty, sincerity and respect for each other and our common goal of securing
  127. true World Peace without want, without exploitation, without repression, and
  128. with the highest priority of each individual not being personal gain.  We can
  129. develop a world and personal attitude in which the highest priority of each
  130. person is the happiness and well-being of the planet itself, using the highest
  131. standards of quality afforded us by the science and technology of this age.
  132.  
  133.         This is the call for people all over the world to be committed and
  134. concerned enough to talk with each other about the changes that need to be made
  135. in the world society and the act together so we can all live together and work
  136. with each other in peace.  Only by creating a new reality with our words and
  137. then with our actions can we hope to achieve the new world we desire, so let us
  138. start right now.
